TEPOZTLAN ~ MEXICO

Imagine a magical town full of mysticism and tradition, result of many centuries of mixing races and cultures.

Tepoztlan is derived from “Nahuatl” and means “a place of abundance”.

According to myth, Tepoztlan is the birthplace (over 1,200 years ago) of Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent God widely-worshipped in ancient Mexico.

A town that was populated since 1300 B.C., but little we know about the groups and cultures that were there along before the Spanish Conquest. In the XIII century the Xoquimilcas arrived in Tepoztlan. In 1438 Tepoztlan was conquered by the Mexicas, residents of the great Tenochtitlan, and in April of 1521 by the Spanish under the leadership of Herman Cortes.

Tepoztlan is located to the north of the state of Morelos, 17 kilometers from the city of Cuernavaca, and 74 kilometers from Mexico City, on the Tepozteco territory to the south of the Ajusco Mountain, surrounded by a great variety of climates, natural resources and vegetation.

Experience the Tepozteco Mountain and its pyramid located at the heights of the mountains that surround the town, built between 1150 and 1350 A.C., homage of the “Ometochitl – Tepoztecatl” God. A God associated with vegetation fertility and the wind. The beautiful Convent that was dedicated to the Virgin of birth and was built between 1555 and 1580 by Dominican priests who came to convert the indigenous people of this area.
