What Am I Truly Here to Build?
Updated: Oct 12
There comes a moment when our goals begin to change.
We may begin by pursuing accomplishments, recognition, or the next milestone. But over time, a quieter question begins to emerge:
What am I truly here to build?
For many years, I believed the answer was found in the projects themselves—a business, a retreat, a book, a program. Each one mattered, yet eventually I realized they were never the destination.
They were simply expressions of something deeper.
Today, I no longer measure success by how much I produce. Instead, I return to different questions.
Does this create more beauty?
Does this help someone feel more connected?
Does this encourage people to care for themselves, for one another, and for the Earth?
If the answer is yes, I know I am moving in the right direction.
Nature has become one of my greatest teachers. A forest does not rush to become a forest. A seed does not compare itself to another tree. Everything grows according to its own rhythm, supported by patience, time, and the conditions that allow it to flourish.
Perhaps our lives are not so different.
The work we create is only one part of our legacy. Equally important is the way we care for ourselves, the people around us, the animals we share this planet with, the communities we nurture, and the values we embody each day.
More and more, I find myself wanting to build things that outlive me—not because of my name, but because of the kindness, wisdom, and care they continue to inspire.
Perhaps that is what we are truly here to build.
Not simply accomplishments.
But a way of living that leaves the world a little more whole than we found it.
