Faith & Trust — When You Cannot See the Outcome Yet

Updated: Oct 12

Over the years, my understanding of faith has changed, transformed, and adapted to the many different scenarios of my life.

In my youth, faith meant having complete trust, confidence, or a strong belief that someone—or something—would support the very personal and specific outcome I was hoping for.

Today, my faith looks different.

I have faith in myself.

I trust my own hands. I trust my hard work. I trust my capacity to learn, adapt, begin again, and continue.

And I understand that I am responsible for what I build with my life.

Because of that, my faith and trust now exist in a cocktail mixed with patience and tenacity.

Because sometimes the journey toward what we are trying to create feels immensely long.

Sometimes we work and work and still cannot see the outcome.

Sometimes there is no external proof that we are getting closer.

And perhaps this is when faith becomes most necessary.

Not as a guarantee that everything will happen exactly as we imagined it.

But as the willingness to continue walking when we cannot yet see the whole staircase.

Of course, there are practical realities.

A stable economic outcome matters. We need to sustain ourselves and the people we love. Dreams cannot exist entirely outside the realities of everyday life.

But economics alone cannot sustain the mind, body, and soul through a long journey.

Something else has to fill our daily energy bucket.

For me, the antidote to the heavier and sadder moments has increasingly become something very simple:

the art of loving life.

Finding something to love today.

The people around us. A beautiful meal. A walk outside. A conversation. Our work. Music. Nature. Movement. Creating something with our hands. Laughing. Learning. Resting.

Small experiences that remind us that life is not something waiting for us at the end of the staircase.

Life is happening while we climb it.

Perhaps this is what fuels my faith now.

Not certainty.

Not guarantees.

Not the promise that everything I am building will unfold exactly as I planned.

But patience. Tenacity. Work. And a daily dose of loving life.

Because loving the life we are living today gives us the energy to continue creating the life we hope to live tomorrow.

And since faith is not about knowing where the path will take us.

Perhaps it is about trusting ourselves enough to keep walking.

How has my understanding of faith changed throughout my life?

What did I once place my faith in? What do I place my faith in today?

When there is no external proof that my work is leading somewhere, what helps me continue?

What fills my daily energy bucket?

Am I postponing my happiness until a particular outcome arrives?

What can I genuinely love about my life today, exactly as it is?

Can I hold a vision for my future without allowing it to take me away from the life happening now?

What would it mean to trust myself even if the path changes?

And finally:

Can I remain devoted to my path even when I cannot yet see where it is taking me?

Until next week, may you continue walking your path with presence and love.
