THE PRACTICE OF DEVOTION
Updated: Oct 12
Dharma is not only discovered in big moments.
It is cultivated through daily practices.
We sometimes imagine that a meaningful life is made of extraordinary experiences—the big decisions, the important accomplishments, the moments that change everything.
But most of life happens quietly.
In the morning.
In the kitchen.
At our desks.
In conversations.
In the way we care for our bodies.
In the way we speak to our children.
In the way we show up for the people we love.
In the small promises we keep to ourselves.
Devotion is built through repetition.
The small choices we make again and again eventually become the foundation of the life we create.
A meditation practice.
A walk in nature.
Preparing nourishing food.
Writing a few honest words.
Creating something simply because it brings us joy.
Choosing kindness when it would be easier to react.
Returning to our values when we have drifted away from them.
These practices may seem insignificant in the moment.
But over time, they shape us.
What we repeatedly give our attention to becomes part of who we are.
So perhaps living our Dharma is less about finding one grand purpose and more about asking:
What am I devoted to every day?
Because our devotion tells the story of our life.
This week, ask yourself:
What do I want to become more devoted to?
And:
What small practice could help me embody it every day?
A simple practice:
Choose one meaningful practice for the next seven days.
Keep it simple.
Five minutes of meditation.
Writing one page.
Walking outside.
Cooking something nourishing.
Offering one intentional act of kindness.
Put your attention fully into it.
Do not worry about doing it perfectly.
Simply return.
Devotion is the art of returning.
Until next week, may you continue walking your path with presence and love.

What we return to, again and again, becomes who we are.
